ICE Agents Capture Brazilian National In Brooklyn

While the man entered the U.S. legally in 1999, he now has a 2023 criminal conviction, according to ICE.

BROOKLYN, CT – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents apprehended a Brazilian national convicted of sexual assault in January.

ICE officers arrested Emerson Eduardo Ferreira, 52, in Brooklyn Jan. 24 after he was released from state custody, ICE announced Tuesday.

Ferreira entered the country legally on April 27, 1999, according to ICE.

Patricia H. Hyde, an acting field office director with ICE, said Ferreira violated the terms of his admission, as she said he “brutally victimized a Connecticut resident.”

Ferreira was convicted in August 2023 in Superior Court in Bridgeport of sexual assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, and two counts of violation of a protective order. Ferreira was sentenced to 18 years in prison, suspended after four years served, followed by 10 years of probation.

Ferreira is in ICE custody.
