Wilding told troopers he left the infant inside the vehicle and ran inside the store to purchase baseball cards, according to state police.

“Wilding explained that the infant was asleep, and he knew he would not be inside the store for long,” police said, in a press release.

The infant was evaluated by emergency medical personnel, who determined the child was not injured. Police said the child is less than four months old. Wilding called the child’s mother, who responded to the scene and took custody of the baby, police said.

Wilding was scheduled to appear on the charges today in Superior Court in Norwich.
