Monster Trucks? Fairy Godmothers? CT Has You Covered This Weekend

Whether you want to run in the mud or watch monster trucks plow through it, you'll find an event to your liking somewhere in CT this weekend

CONNECTICUT — Whether your taste runs to monster trucks or fairy godmothers, there's an event somewhere in Connecticut this weekend to feed your fetish.

Time to get your Megalodon® on at Monster Jam, where the world's best monster truck drivers will all be crushing it at the XL Center in Hartford, Saturday and Sunday. The rigs look to deliver "big thrills, big air, and big-time family fun," with featured appearances from the legendary Grave Digger®, snarling El Toro Loco®, and of course, the mighty Megalodon® itself. There's even motocross, if you prefer your dirt racing two-wheeled. Tickets are available online here.

If your idea of a good time trends more towards running in the dirt than watching steel juggernauts tear it up, join your tribe at Bigelow Hollow State Park in Union on Saturday, March 29.

The Northern Nipmuck Trail Race was discontinued in 2012, but was revived in 2021, and is now bigger than ever. Hallmarks of the race are the "low key vibe, friendly people, and the rough and tumble nature of the course and runners," according to organizers.

The course starts just across the road from Bigelow Hollow and heads south on the Nipmuck Trail through the Yale-Myers Forest. At approximately four miles, the trail crosses Barlow Mill Road, and continues another four miles to the turn around at Boston Hollow. Runners will then turn around and return to the finish following the same route. Register online here. The race starts at 9:00 am, and check-in begins 7:30 a.m.

You may be ditching Disney's Snow White live-action remake along with the rest of the country, but consider catching Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella" at The Warner Theatre in Torrington. The classic opens Friday, March 28 and will run two weekends. Cindy's shenanigans still come to a crashing halt when the clock strikes at midnight, but unforgettable songs like "In My Own Little Corner," "Stepsisters’ Lament," and "Ten Minutes Ago" pretty much ensure this classic will live forever. Tickets and showtimes are available online here.

At this free event, see where the art is made, and talk to the artists about their processes, inspiration, and techniques. Tour the historic three-story renovated corset factory turned artist studios for a peek into Bridgeport's industrial past and its artistic present and future. There will also be plenty of opportunities to buy, big and small.
