The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southern Connecticut on Sunday. Here are the new updates.

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — More thunderstorms are expected Sunday afternoon and evening, and it appears to be a gloomy several days of weather across Connecticut.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued by the National Weather Service for all of southern Connecticut on Sunday.

"Slow-moving showers and thunderstorms along a stalled frontal boundary could produce locally heavy downpours this afternoon and evening. The Weather Prediction Center has placed the region in a slight risk for excessive rainfall, indicating the potential for isolated to scattered areas of flash flooding," the weather service said.

WFSB 3 TV Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon said "scattered thunderstorms develop later this afternoon and evening with the daytime heating."

"If you encounter a storm, expect heavy rain, lightning, thunder, a gusty wind, and possibly small hail. A strong or severe storm can’t be ruled out. Localized flooding will also be an issue, especially where heavy rain has fallen over the past couple of days," Dixon wrote.

And the week ahead forecast includes "more clouds than sun, high humidity and a chance for scattered thunderstorms that could produce heavy rain," according to WFSB 3 TV meteorologists.

And as for the track of Hurricane Lee and how close it may get to the U.S. East Coast, no one knows currently.

"Our longer range models continue to keep Lee offshore as it heads toward Nova Scotia by *next* weekend. It’s too soon to know what level of impacts, if any, but high surf and dangerous rip currents are likely later in the week," Dixon wrote. (Watch/read the full WFSB 3 TV weather forecast here).
