Storm Damage Reports: Numerous Homes Damaged Or Destroyed In CT

There have been dozens of reports of major storm damage from Isaias across Connecticut. Here is the updated list of damage in the state.

CONNECTICUT — What can you say? There is no doubt that Tropical Storm Isaias caused destruction across the state even though the storm raced by us and the storm impacts lasted just a few hours.

But in a short period of time the powerful tropical storm knocked out power to nearly 700,000 Connecticut residents or more than one-third of the state, blew down hundreds, if not thousands of trees across the state and dragging down power lines, and one person was killed when a tree fell on him.

Numerous homes were damaged or destroyed by fallen trees and limbs and several areas of the state reported tropical storm force wind gusts.

Fairfield County:

  • Waterspout seen approaching Westport from the Sound Shore
  • Trees down on Armand Road in Ridgefield
  • Part of tree splintered off in Ridgefield
  • Wildwood Road blocked by fallen tree in Stamford
  • Numerous trees and limbs down along with powerlines on many roads in Norwalk
  • Multiple trees down on wires and across Route 58 in Bethel...Jacobs Lane... Numerous trees down including one that blocked Jacobs around #20. (Cleared last evening). Specifically at (6 Jacobs Lane) two trees snapped in half and another 2-3 trees (in wooded area) uprooted.
  • Tree with wires down on Old Academy Road almost at intersection of Mine Hill Road in Fairfield.
  • Adding to the storm damage in Fairfield, on Nonopoge Road, large oak tree fell and snapped utility pole taking out power lines. A neighbor's large oak tree then fell across the road blocking all traffic. A medium beech tree fell in backyard.
  • Danbury: Triangle St just north of Triangle Terrace is closed due to a tree across the roadway. DPD has placed barricades.
  • A Greenwich resident said a "mini tornado" may have touched down on Cornelia Drive based on the row of gigantic trees that all got taken down on just one block. These trees are huge, all on one side of the street in a row, uprooted (not just fallen down) and concentrated on over just a few hundred yards, the resident told Patch.

New London County:

  • tree down on Georgia and Massachusetts Road in New London
  • Tree snapped and uprooted at the corner of Laurelwood Drive and Woodbridge Road in Niantic
  • Tree uprooted and toppled over on Lamphere Road in Waterford
  • tree fallen to the ground on Skyview Drive in Colchester

Middlesex County:

  • Large tree fell across Grace Lane near intersection with Route 99 blocking the road in Cromwell

New Haven County:

  • several trees knocked over in New Haven; a big tree limb fell and hit a condo in the area of Bull Hill Lane apartments in West Haven
  • Numerous trees and three branches snapped along streets in area of Hillside Avenue in Naugatuck
  • Several streets closed in Guilford due to fallen trees and power lines

Tolland County

  • tree uprooted in on Randall Drive; in Hebron on Old Colchester Road trees and wires fell on a car, people were trapped but not hurt; tree and wires down on Martin Road in Hebron;
  • Tree and wires down on Baxter Street in Tolland
  • Tree down on wire on Lake Road by Island Street in Andover.
  • Tree and wires down on Willington Hill Road in Willington
  • Tree down on Pine Street and Route 207 in Columbia.

Hartford County

  • trees down on Prospect Avenue, Arundel Avenue in West Hartford; trees and powerlines down on Bain Bridge Road and North Quaker Lane
  • tree down on a vehicle on Route 4 and a woman was trapped inside but not hurt in Burlington
  • tree and power lines down on Audobon Avenue and Taft Avenue in Newington.
  • Large tree fell across Grace Lane near intersection with Route 99 blocking the road in Cromwell.
  • Tree down on house and garage on Commonwealth Avenue in New Britain.
  • Power lines down on Lion Street in New Britain
  • 2 trees down, powerlines down, one tree on house at Black Ledge Drive North in Marlborough
  • Partial roof blown off the building in the New Bright Plaza in New Britain
  • Tree down on house on Hillside Avenue in Wethersfield.
  • Tree down on house — heavily damaged at 12 Pleasant Street in East Windsor
  • Power lines down on Vernon Street in Vernon.
  • Utility poles and wires down on Dart Hill Road in South Windsor.
