These Are The Best Schools In CT: 2024 Rankings

CONNECTICUT — Throughout 2024, various publications released “best of” lists to help guide Connecticut residents’ educational choices, from the best elementary schools to the best colleges and universities to pursue a degree.

Connecticut figured prominently in several data analyses and study-driven rankings for education from U.S. News & World Report and Niche, which provides rankings on schools, neighborhoods, cities and companies in the United States.

According to U.S. News, Connecticut boasts several of the best high schools, middle schools and elementary schools.

West School in New Canaan scored 100 out of 100 on U.S. News' report card, and was the top ranking elementary school in the state. House of Arts Letters and Science (Hals) Academy in New Britain came out on top in U.S. News' middle school ratings.

Connecticut public high schools ranked second in the nation, with just under 43 percent of its schools in the top 25 percent, according to the 2024 Best High Schools list published by U.S. News & World Report. At the top of the heap was Connecticut IB Academy in East Hartford.

Yale (No. 5) and UConn (No. 70) were ranked in the Top 100 colleges nationally by U.S. News.

The ranking and review site Niche also weighed in on the best public schools and school districts.

The New Canaan Public Schools District was at the top of a list of 135 Connecticut school districts that earned a mention in Niche’s ranking of more than 11,000 school districts nationwide. Staples High School in Westport was ranked first in Connecticut.
