Will CT Have A White Christmas? Here’s What The Old Farmer’s Almanac Predicts

Will Christmas 2025 be a "Gilmore Girls" moment for CT snow lovers, or just another day at the beach? The Old Farmer's Almanac weighs in…

Songs, poems, children’s stories and holiday movies relive the joy of a white Christmas, but how likely is it that Connecticut residents will wake up to a snow-covered landscape on Christmas morning?

“While we all know that nature can be unpredictable, the odds are that the snow will fall mainly in the Central region of the U.S.” the almanac’s website reads. “According to The 2026 Old Farmer’s Almanac, most of the United States will be seeing a milder, gentler winter than average.”

The Old Farmer’s Almanac said in a newly released forecast that only the most northwestern area of Connecticut has a good shot at a White Christmas. The rest of the state is unlikely to see any snow.

The Northeast region as a whole, on the other hand, is expected to be covered in white.

Despite the perceptions fueled by "Gilmore Girls" and Hallmark movies, the prospects for a White Christmas in Connecticut are not very strong, historically speaking. The last time any area of the state experienced a White Christmas (defined by the National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration as "having 1 inch or more of snow on the ground Christmas morning") was 2021, in Hartford.
