Does anyone in your family work in politics or government? None.

Previous public office, appointive or elective: Yes. I have had the honor of serving on the Avon Town Council since 2019. I am seeking to be re-elected for a fourth term.

Why are you seeking this office?

I am running for re-election as a caring and invested resident of Avon who will strive for transparency in governance, connecting our vibrant and diverse community, and ensuring that our town is a place where all are welcome to live, work, and play.

I believe in citizen governance and that creative solutions to our most challenging issues can come from any stakeholder.

I believe in a town that works for all residents. As a member of Avon’s Town Council, I am committed to continuing to bring the same pragmatic and solution-based approach that I have implemented in my classroom to the council chambers.

The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it: Unfortunately, national politics has become incredibly divisive and intrusive in the day-to-day lives of Americans.

While concerns tend to be national, all politics are local.

There are neighbors of ours who struggle to pay the bills, as they feel their paycheck is depleted ever quickly due to rising costs across the board.

Some see environmental challenges and feel helpless to combat climate change effectively enough to make an impact.

Still other community members hide, questioning whether their immigration status will be recognized.

With these concerns in mind, I believe that many of our most difficult challenges can be bridged by coming together as a town to find common ground.

I continue to support organizations like Bike Walk Avon, Avon Land Trust, Avon Historical Society, and others that have reinforced the importance of diverse ideas and opinions when facing pressing issues.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I can't manage the tone or tenor of the other candidates, but I can position myself to support the interests of Avon residents the best I can in the time that I have. I pledge to always keep the vital vision of Avon's residents first and foremost in any decision that appears in front of the council.

My diverse experience, from growing up in rural PA on a farmette, to living in Holland before beginning my teaching career, to serving as coach, director, and mentor, I firmly believe, sets me apart and will reinforce my contributions to Avon's Town Council.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

I believe it is important that town leaders think and plan for:

• A sustainable future for our children.

• Attracting new commercial/business opportunities to existing zoned spaces to increase the grand list and keep our taxes low.

• Continued support for Avon’s emergency services, including funding for capital projects for the AFD and APD.

• Investment in and preservation of our parks, trails, paths, and open spaces.

• Maintaining our roads, sidewalks, and other critical infrastructure.

• Creative ways to bring our community together through continued support for the Avon Free Public Library, Recreation & Parks, the Senior Center, Avon Historical Society, VFW, and other civic organizations.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence that you can handle this job?

I will let my record on the Avon Town Council since 2019 speak for itself.

During that time, we have increased investments in our local critical infrastructure, including roads and bridges, expanded and improved our emergency communication systems for our first responders, continued capital investment in our schools, secured AAA+ bond ratings, preserved open space land for future generations, opened and built new active and passive recreational opportunities, and ushered in consistent grand list growth.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Help the people you know to grow, and you'll grow right alongside them.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

Once again, I would like to take the opportunity to encourage residents to flex their civic-minded muscles and get involved. Chances are, there is a local civic group that mirrors an interest you have.
