Party Affiliation: Republican
Occupation: Technology business owner. professional experience of 25 Years.
Family: Yes, been very blessed. Very supportive and lovely wife of 27 years, 18-year-old son in college (high school valedictorian), 8-year-old daughter (natural people person), 2-year-old border collie rescued as a puppy.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government? No.
Previous public office, appointive or elective: No.
Why are you seeking this office?
While it was always on my mind to run for public office to serve Avon, the professional and family focus always ended up taking priority.
I realized I could no longer justify being on the sidelines with respect to how Avon is run, and I need to jump in and provide lasting value to Avon by leveraging my substantial technology leadership and business management experience.
A practical, balanced, well-informed, and considered approach will always serve a better outcome for all of Avon.
A fiscally responsible approach is paramount when there is oversight and influence over how others’ money is spent. There is always great potential for the wisdom of crowds, which must be leveraged and not discounted.
More recently, however, voters’ voices in Avon are not being duly heard.
Taxation is becoming arbitrary and burdensome on all Avon residents. We need to get back to practicing with discipline the proven values of stewardship, transparency, and accountability to drive measurable, lasting results for Avon.
Avon deserves to be responsibly steered with these values.
Finally, I am very concerned, like many, that our country is faced with a fork in the road with respect to politics and civil discourse.
Polarization is at a dangerously high level, and discourse is becoming uncivil.
We need committed bridge-building leaders at all levels to fight these polarizing forces by finding common middle ground governed by shared principles and ethics.
If elected as your town council member, I will work collaboratively to be that bridge-builder for a better Avon for all residents.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it: Public spending and taxation is the single most pressing issue in Avon.
Taxation is becoming arbitrary and burdensome on all Avon residents.
Avon is considering taking on large amounts of long-term debt for various capital projects, which will further increase tax burdens on all residents.
Without a fiscally conservative, long-term impact considered approach, we risk saddling current and future Avon residents with a large debt burden spanning decades.
We most certainly need to budget for essential town services that enable an excellent quality of life for all Avon residents.
Avon needs to provide these services while reducing and eliminating long-term debt wherever possible.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I have tremendous respect for all current office holders and candidates. Serving one's community in any capacity is a highly commendable calling.
However, I believe decision makers lean on their core beliefs in making big decisions.
I do not believe liberal tax-and-spend strategies work well long term. At some point, it becomes unsustainable and a burden on all.
We need to keep Avon a great and economical place to live for residents of all ages and income levels.
I firmly believe a fiscally conservative approach is the right approach that will deliver long-term sustainability in this regard.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Be the fiscally responsible, efficient, and lean government candidate who commits to hearing all sides and with respect for all of Avon residents — Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.
My decision-making will always be based on the best long-term and financially prudent outcomes for all of Avon.
Serve as a bridge-building leader who commits to fighting political polarization by finding common middle ground governed by shared principles and ethics.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence that you can handle this job?
My professional background is in software and technology innovation, leadership, and management.
I received a Ph.D. in computer engineering from Rensselaer, then over nearly 20 years served at General Electric Research, and later at Pratt & Whitney.
Following this, and for the past several years, I have been serving as president and owner of a software technology business that operates at the intersection of technology and law.
My 25 years of professional experience that blends technology, business management, and entrepreneurial skills are what I hope to leverage to benefit all Avon residents.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
My mother, when I was a fairly young - maybe when I was 8 or 10 years old.
She told me a version of the tale "King and the Persistent Spider," which has stuck with me and guided everything I have done in life.
Steve Jobs, I never met him, but I have been inspired by his many words of wisdom. To follow one's instinct forward, as the dots will connect and be visible when you look back.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
Yes, I really mean it when I say I commit to hearing all sides and with respect for all of Avon residents - Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.
