AVON, CT — A small group of Italian restaurants will shrink by one with the closing next month of the First & Last Tavern in Avon, the second local eatery announced to shutter in recent weeks.

Located at 26 W. Main St., Avon, First & Last Tavern's last day will be on Nov. 10, the restaurant's owners announced via social media on Oct. 10.

The owners said, however, that First & Last Taverns in Plainville, Glastonbury, and Hartford will remain open "for years to come."

First & Last Tavern's brand dates all the way back to 1936, according to the company website, but Avon's eatery opened 30 years ago in 1994.

The owners didn't disclose a reason for the restaurant's closure, though the restaurant industry in general has been hit hard by post-pandemic cost increases, staff shortages, and changes in customers' dining habits.

Last month in Avon, River's Edge Mediterranean Cuisine in town, 201 W. Main St., Avon, announced it was closing due to a decline in business post-pandemic.

According to First & Last Taven-Avon, people can still enjoy the restaurant's fine, Italian cuisine for one more month.

The owners thanked the public for their support over the years.

"We owe our longevity and success to our amazingly loyal customers," wrote First & Last Tavern - Avon. "We can't thank you enough for supporting us throughout the years."

The eatery specializes in traditional Italian fare like pasta, pizza, and paninis, as well as salads, burgers, wings, etc.

First & Last Tavern in Avon was also a common destination for birthdays, wedding rehearsal dinners, and baby/bridal showers as well as holiday parties, graduation parties, and other family events.

"Please stop by and see us over the next month, as we would love to see you all one more time," wrote the tavern.
