Avon Budget And Tax Hike Topic Of Annual Meeting Monday

AVON, CT — A key step toward a spending plan and new tax rate for next fiscal year will take place Monday evening, May 5.

The town's annual budget meeting will be held on Monday, May 5th at 7 p.m. at the Avon Senior Center in the Community Room.

It will be held in a hybrid format, both in-person and virtually via GoToMeeting.

Public comment will be accepted by both in-person and virtual audiences.

Should a speaker wish to provide public comment virtually, the town recommends accessing the virtual meeting link using the web link rather than the phone number.

The annual budget meeting will not include a vote for the budget or result in an increase or decrease in the budget as currently proposed.

The budget will be voted on at the May 14 referendum at the Avon Senior Center from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Latest 2025-26 Budget Plan

According to the Avon Board of Finance's April 9 budget presentation at a special meeting, the combined town/school spending plan stands at $118.62 million, a 2.73 percent or $3.15 million increase.

This, the town said, would result in a tax rate increase from 29.66 to 30.75 mills — a 1.09-mill increase.

For a home assessed at $300,000, the new budget, as it is now, would increase the owner's tax bill by $327.
