Avon, CCSU Collaborate On Bridge-Building Project

AVON, CT — Students at one of the state's largest universities have collaborated with the Town of Avon to build a bridge in the community — literally.

Town officials recently announced a collaborative project with Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, where students and professors are working with Avon's engineering, public works, and recreation departments.

As part of their capstone project, CCSU students designed and built a pedestrian bridge for the Huckleberry Hill Recreation Area.

Representatives from the town departments recently visited CCSU to see the final presentations and view the completed bridge, which is being donated to the town and will be installed soon.

"The Avon Town Council will accept this thoughtful and generous donation at one of their upcoming meetings," wrote the town in an announcement.

"This is a remarkable example of what can be done when Town departments collaborate to support education and community needs."
