Avon Church To Recreate Salem's 'Witch Hysteria'

The church is hosting two immersive theatrical presentations called 'The Witch Tryal' later this week and this weekend.

AVON, CT — A local church is hosting two performances of a theatrical presentation on the Salem witch trials this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24-25.

"The Witch Tryal" will be performed at the Avon Congregational Church's historic meetinghouse at 6 W. Main St., Avon, at 7:30 p.m. both evenings.

There, guests will be within the show, which is about Susannah Martin, who was caught up in the witch hysteria of 1692.

The performance, according to event organizers, "uses primary source documents to recreate the trial of a sharp-tongued widow."

After the show, a "colonial-style reception" is planned.

Organizers warn that the performance is no appropriate for young children due to the subject matter and "intense emotion."
