Avon Library To Host Noted Thomas Jefferson Scholar In Free Program

AVON, CT — The local library is hosting an event later this week that is a perfect complement to the town's America 250 activities being planned all year.

The Avon Free Public Library on Thursday, Jan. 15, is hosting "Being Thomas Jefferson," a virtual author event with Andrew Burstein about one of the most famous Founding Fathers.

It will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday on the Zoom platform.

A noted Jefferson scholar and biographer, Burstein was prominently featured in the Ken Burns' 1997 PBS documentary "Thomas Jefferson." He lives in Charlottesville, Va.

Burstein recently retired from Louisiana State University, where he was the Charles P. Manship Professor of History.

He is the author of 11 previous books, including "The Passions of Andrew Jackson," "Jefferson’s Secrets," and "Madison and Jefferson and The Problem of Democracy."
