Craving Burritos? Avon Has A New Mexican Chain Arriving

The restaurant would be the fifth Connecticut location.

AVON, CT — Locals looking for a burrito fix will soon have a new Mexican eatery to indulge their cravings after the town last month approved a project to build one.

The Avon Planning and Zoning Commission has unanimously approved a special exemption allowing for the restaurant, which will be a Salsa Fresca Mexican Grill at 380 W. Main St.

Currently, there are 12 Salsa Fresca eateries in New York and Connecticut, with Connecticut locations being in Danbury, West Hartford, Westport and Fairfield.

Avon's new restaurant would join planned eateries in Manchester and Newington, according to the company's website. Several more are planned in New York.

Salsa Fresca features fast casual dining with all sorts of burritos, tacos, salads and other Mexican fare on the menu.

What was approved by the PZC was a special exemption allowing for a "Class III" restaurant in that zone.

The eatery is 2,100 square feet and has 30 seats. A lot of Salsa Fresca business is takeout and catering.

It will occupy half the space of a former Victoria's Secret store on the site, according to meeting minutes.

The new restaurant's public hearing was closed Nov. 15, with the PZC voting on the exemption that night.
