CT Field Hockey Players On Team USA
The players are from Avon, Simsbury and Westport and they will compete in an international, Olympics-like competition for Jewish athletes.
AVON/SIMSBURY/WESTPORT, CT — Three Connecticut field hockey players will participate this week and next in a prestigious, Olympics-like international competition for Jewish athletes.
Avon resident Rebecca Berman, Simsbury resident Eliza Phillips and Westport resident Maya Reiner are on Team USA's field hockey team competing in the 15th Pan American Maccabi Games.
The international competition featuring Jewish athletes from 24 countries will take place from Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2023, to Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Connecticut's trio is representing their country on the open field hockey team, with the U.S. also fielding a 16-and-under squad in the competition.
Team USA's overall team will have 700 athletes, joining 4,000 other Jewish athletes worldwide in 58 other Olympics-type sports.

"We’re excited to continue Maccabi USA’s Mission of building Jewish pride through sports and to help grow the sport of field hockey by offering this life-changing athletic and cultural experience to more girls and women,” said Maccabi USA Field Hockey Chairperson Meredith Shifman in a statement.
