The updated regulations have been the subject of several PZC workshops to date and are ready for the next step toward adoption.

The final draft is now posted on the Avon Planning & Community Development page on the town's website at this link.

Town officials said one of the main goals of the updated regulations was to revise them and include any required changes enacted by the state legislature over the last two to three years.

Another goal is to make the zoning regulations more user friendly.

As a result, they will now contain a new 'use chart' to make the regulations easier to use.

In addition, the zoning regulations will also include rules for affordable housing developments which have been approved in Avon.

Such housing is, more and more, becoming a goal in communities like Avon as it looks to better provide elderly residents a means to stay in town and for younger residents to move and/or stay there.

In fact, the Avon Affordable Housing Task Force is presenting a public forum called "Affordable Housing: What It Means to Avon,” featuring veteran Connecticut planning and development expert David Fink.

It will take place on Thursday, March 27, at 7 p.m. in the Avon Free Public Library's community room, 281 Country Club Road, Avon.

If there are any questions you would like addressed prior to the public hearing, residents can contact the Avon Planning Department staff at 860-409-4328.
