State Budget Nets Avon Cash For New Softball Fields
Avon's House representation Tuesday applauded the approved state budget.
AVON, CT — Avon's legislative delegation in the Connecticut House was pleased with the state budget Tuesday, noting it includes cash for new athletic facilities at a local park.
State Rep. Eleni Kavros DeGraw, D-Avon, and state Rep. Tammy Exum, D-West Hartford applauded the $200,000 budget allocation for new softball fields at Sperry Park in Avon.
"These softball fields represent a giant step forward for our girls and for Title IX," said Kavros DeGraw in a joint statement with Exum. "Our Avon Little League is one of the best in the state and it’s critical that the fields at Sperry Park for softball help our softball program rise to meet that excellence."

"The popularity of softball has steadily increased over the years in Avon," said Avon Town Council Chairman Dan Polhamus. "This money will be instrumental in helping us to improve the quality and capacity of our softball facilities.
"In doing so, we move closer to our goal of providing an experience that rivals and complements those of our excellent Little League baseball programs. Thank you to Rep. Exum and Rep. Kavros DeGraw for once again coming through for Avon."
Sperry Park is located at 60 Simsbury Road (Route 10) and it currently includes four fields and a picnic area.
