Time Is Now To Sign Up For Avon Holiday Lights Contest

AVON, CT — With Thanksgiving weekend behind us, many of us are busting out the holiday lights to show off our spirit in our neighborhood.

As a result, the Avon Recreation and Parks Department is asking for Clark Griswold wannabes to sign up and see where their holiday decor stacks up against the rest of the town.

Avon's annual Holiday Decorating Contest is underway, with folks having until Dec. 10 to sign up.

"Celebrate the season by showing off your holiday spirit," wrote the Avon recreation department.

"Avon Recreation and Parks invites residents to join our town-wide Holiday Decorating Contest, where the community votes for their favorite residential displays. Whether you go all out with lights, design a charming doorway, or showcase a unique theme, this is your chance to shine and be creative."

• Deck your House! (Best Decorated House)
• Sleigh the Doorway! (Best Decorated Doorway)
• Frosty’s Choice for Originality! (Most Creative/Unique Theme)

How It Works

• Submit Your Residence by: Dec. 10. (Entries received after this date cannot be included on the community map.)
• Voting Runs: Dec. 15 to Dec. 29.
• A link to vote will be shared through an e-blast and on social media on Dec 15 or earlier.
• Residences will be listed by address only (no names shared).
• Winners in each category will receive a trophy + $100 Avon Recreation gift card to use toward any Avon Rec program.

Participant Guidelines

• Make sure lights and decorations are turned on during the contest dates, dusk–8:30 p.m.
• Addresses will be featured on the public contest map for community viewing and voting and no names will be shared.
• Register using your avonrec.com account – registration is free! Register for the category you want to compete in. You can register for one or all!

Voting/Public Guidelines

• View residences from your car only. Do not enter private property. Do not drive on grass or pull into any driveways.
• Enjoy displays from dusk until 8:30 p.m. (no later).
• Use low beams if pausing on the street.
• Be fair and thoughtful in your votes.
