Two Major Youth Sports Tourneys In Avon Get Council Funds
The Avon Town Council this month approved grants to help both lacrosse and soccer tournaments in town this spring.
AVON, CT — Avon officials this month have awarded $9,550 in so-called "Community Event" grants that will assist two local sports organizations conduct their high profile tournaments later this year.
The application period for the award was for events between March 1 and June 30.
Avon Youth Lacrosse received a $2,050 grant from the town for its major tournament event, the Falcon Fest Lacross Tournament, May 21 at the Fisher Meadows Recreation Area, 800 Old Farms Road, Avon.

Meanwhile, the Avon Soccer Club received a $7,500 grant from the town for its annual Avon Memorial Day Soccer Tournament, which is also at Fisher Meadows.
Avon Town Manager Brandon Robertson said, in the past, the town helped fund the soccer tournament for ambulance and police coverage of the soccer event.

Councilperson Heather Maguire said both tournaments are "great events" for the town to host and they are good uses for the funding.
The vote for both grant awards was unanimous at the council's February meeting, which was Feb. 2.
