Unique Avon Coffee Shop Moves To New Location

AVON, CT — A unique Avon coffee shop with a mission that goes beyond mere java and edibles has relocated to a new location in town.

BeanZ & Co. in Avon moved to a new location earlier this month, a new-and-improved endeavor that further maintains the shop's mission to feature an "all-inclusive" staff.

Owners Kim Morrison and Noelle Alix, the parents of special needs children, regularly employ those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

It's not just something they urg. It's something they practice.

Last week was the coffee shop's first full week at its new location at 11 E. Main St.

Previously, the coffee shop, which was founded in 2018, was on 300 W. Main St., but it was announced in April that a move was necessary, reportedly due to a steep rent hike there.

The coffee shop now is located in the former Motophoto building in Avon Village Marketplace at 11 E. Main St.

In recent days, BeanZ & Co. has been posting photos and news about the new location, with lines visibly out the door.

So far, it doesn't appear the move is negatively impacting business at all.

"What a week it has been!! We are so incredibly grateful for our community, our friends and our families...this has all been possible because of YOU! Thank you," wrote the owners via Facebook this week.

That support shouldn't be surprising, as the little coffee shop's mission helped fuel a nearly $75,000 GoFundMe campaign for equipment and supplies needed to install a kitchen in the new location.

That support and past support over the years since its founding has allowed the coffee shop to continue, despite devastating obstacles, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the associated economic challenges.

"Your generosity with every donation, with every word of support, with every hour you volunteered in helping us move truly fills us with gratitude beyond measure," wrote Morrison and Alix last week on social media.

"We hope to thank each one of you in person, but in the meantime may this serve in some small way to share our deepest and most heartfelt appreciation."
