Volunteers Sought For Avon Senior Citizen Initiative
Applications are due this week to participate in a municipal effort to help make Avon an 'age-friendly' community.

AVON, CT — Volunteer applications are due Friday, Jan. 9, for an initiative aimed at making Avon a better place for senior citizens to live.
Avon is taking part in the Connecticut Age Well Collaborative’s Community Leaders Fellowship.

"We are looking for about 10 older adults who want to share their real-life experiences and help make our community more age-friendly," wrote the town in an announcement.
The Community Leaders Fellowship brings together three members of town staff with about 10 older adult residents for a year-long partnership to create a community project for Ageism Awareness Day in October 2026.

As a result, Avon is looking for residents who are:
- Older Adults: Age 60 or older
- Team Players: Collaborative mindset with differing perspectives.
- Lifelong Learners: Open to continuous growth.
- Community-Minded: See system-wide challenges and prioritize community needs.
- Developing Leadership: Little to no experience working with local government.
Applications are due Friday, and there are two ways to apply:
- Online: Apply HERE
- Paper: Apply in person at the Avon Senior Center (635 West Avon Road) or Avon Department of Social Services (60 W. Main St., Building #5, 2nd Floor).
- Important Note: All applicants must attend the required applicant meeting (virtual on Jan. 12 at noon or Jan. 13 at 10 a.m.) to qualify for selection.
