Berlin High School Business DECA Participates In DECA State Conference

The Berlin HS DECA has participated in events that showcase their business talents and placed 2nd in the conference this year.

Berlin HS DECA Chapter: On March 13, 2017, twenty-three students, along with advisors Robert Parisi, Lorraine Wicklund, and Marisa Wischert, from the Berlin High School Business DECA chapter, participated in their second Connecticut DECA State Conference at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville, CT. For the second year in a row, the students of BHS have proven to be dynamic business competitors. Students participated in events that allowed them to showcase their business knowledge in a competitive business atmosphere.

The students spent a considerable amount of time preparing for events in the areas of: Accounting,Advertising Campaigns, Business Law &Ethics, Financial Management & Planning, Personal Finance, Marketing, and Sports & Entertainment Marketing. We are proud to announce a victory.

Over 1,100 students from Connecticut participated in over 45 events. Hannah Smolicz (sophomore) placed 2 nd for her Advertising Campaign that she re-designed for a local Berlin business; Gabriella Pattavina and Angella Perrelli (sophomores) placed 4th for their Sports & Entertainment Team Decision Making event; and Briana Muller (senior) was awarded a $500 Connecticut DECA Scholarship. We are more delighted to announce that our winners, along with Claudia Zovich (senior), BHS DECA president, have been invited to compete on the national level to represent the BHS business program. This is a great accomplishment for these students, the BHS Business Department, and all who participated in representing the BHS community.

In addition, DECA members have worked hard this year to raise funds for their program, the new school store, and for Berlin Helping Berlin (an organization assisting Berlin community members who may be in need of support). Students will continue their fundraising efforts to assist these students with their trip to the DECA International Career Conference located in Anaheim, CA, this April.

If you would like to make a donation to the BHS DECA chapter to help fund the program and those attending nationals, please contact Marisa Wischert or Robert Parisi (860-828- 6577). Checks will be accepted and can be mailed directly to Berlin High School, 139 Patterson Way, Berlin, CT 06037. Please make checks payable to BHS (in the memo write DECA Donation). In addition, please include your contact information and mailing address so we can mail you a receipt for your donation.
