Berlin Police Announce Results of DUI Checkpoint
More than 1,000 motorists passed through the Friday night sobriety checkpoint.

More than 1,000 motorists passed through the Field Sobriety Checkpoint Friday night and three drivers were arrested.
Between 6 p.m. and midnight Dec. 4, a total of 1,071 vehicles passed through the checkpoint set up on the southbound side of the Berlin Turnpike south of Deming Road, according to Berlin Police. Four motorists were flagged by officers for DUI testing or other investigative interviews, police said Monday.
There was a total of three arrests made during the regional effort that also included officers from the Newington, Wethersfield, Rocky Hill and Cromwell Police departments.

Two drivers were cited for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and one was cited for operating with a suspended license, according to police. None of the 1,071 drivers were flagged for field sobriety tests.
This DUI enforcement was funded by a grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Division to support increased DUI detection and enforcement efforts. The enforcement program will run through September 2016 with 75 percent funding from the grant.
