Explicit Text Message Lead to Arrest of Wallingford Man in Sex Case

A Wallingford man is facing charges after police said he sent text messages of a sexual nature to a minor in Berlin earlier this year, only to have the messages discovered by the teenager's parents.

Officers with the Berlin Police Department arrested Charles P. Ofori, of 13 Brookview Ave. in Wallingford, into custody Thursday morning after obtaining a warrant.


Ofori, 29, was held briefly and taken to New Britain Superior Court later in the morning for arraignment on charges of risk of injury to a minor and using technology in an effort to entice or coerce a minor into a sexual relationship, court officials and police said.

Berlin Deputy Chief John Klett said the case stems from a series of messages that Ofori allegedly sent to the cell phone of a female minor in Berlin. When parents discovered the messages, they immediately contacted police.

The victim had never met with Ofori, police said, and it was unclear how he had received the minor's phone number.

Further details of the case were not immediately available.

The Berlin Police Department reported the following arrest:

Aug. 26

Scott P. O'Neill, 21, of 1079 High Road in Berlin, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and possession of drug paraphernalia, Aug. 26.
