Resignation Filed: Berlin High Athletic Director

The resignation follows a turmoiled season for the BHS football team.

Berlin High School athletic director Dan Scavone plans to resign at the end of the school because of unspecified health reasons, it was announced Tuesday.

Scavone told The Courant, “I’m turning 54 and have some health issues that stress does not coincide with. The job has evolved into a very stressful position in the administrative world. I want to focus on my health and my family.” He reportedly gave his resignation to Berlin Superintendent of Schools David Erwin on Monday.

Scavone’s resignation comes on the heels of a turmoiled season for the school’s football program that was sanctioned by the CIAC Board of Control in November for recruiting violations. The team was forced to forfeit seven victories and was placed on probation for one year. The school also was fined $1,000 for having each of four ineligible players on the team.
