Southington Opens Warming Centers, Issues Parking Ban As Storm Strikes

Several inches of snow are expected to fall on the state Friday night into Saturday morning.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — With a snowstorm and icy weather bearing down on the state, Southington police have announced the town is enacting cold-weather protocols.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced state protocols earlier this week, with Southington announcing the protocols on Christmas Day for Friday and Saturday.

"The purpose of Connecticut's severe weather protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from several cold conditions, which could be life-threatening if exposed to the elements for extended perios of time," wrote the town.

• Southington Public Library, 255 Main St.: Friday, Dec. 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Calendar House Community/Senior Center, 388 Pleasant St.: Friday, Dec. 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Southington Police Department Lobby, 69 Lazy Lane: All hours when the library and Calendar House are closed.

Meanwhile, the Town of Southington's winter parking ban is in effect as the town prepares to be belted by Old Man Winter and, possibly, inches of snow.

The winter parking ban is in effect from Nov. 15 through April 15, 2026.

As a result, parking on all streets is prohibited from the hours of midnight to 6 a.m. every night, with parking prohibited during any snowfall events such as the one expected Friday into Saturday.
