What Road in Berlin Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

BERLIN, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Berlin. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

  • "Main Street, East Berlin."
  • "Alling Street! I used to walk my children in their stroller on that street but I had to stop because people drive like its a race track!"
  • "Savage Hill."
  • "Worthington Ridge."
  • "Hart Street."
  • "Winesap Rd for all the 'dog park' speeders."
  • "Four Rod Road. We need a patrol car there also since people go at least 40 instead of 25."
  • "Burnham St and Cole La. People that use these just as connectors always fly down them."
  • "I would say Norton Rd. However, it's filled with plenty of pot holes so you have to slow down! I think that's why the town avoids paving the heavily traveled road! It's a mess!"
  • "Have to say Worthington Ridge. People use the Ridge as a cut through to Route 9 or vise versa. Many people speed down the road. The speed limit is 30 miles an hour. Also noticed that tractor trailers aren't allowed on the Ridge but I notice it happens quite often."
