Bethel Resident to Be Honored at Special Olympics Hall of Fame Dinner

Amy Desmarais of Bethel will receive the 'Unsung Hero' award for her more than 20 years of service.

From Special Olympics Connecticut:

Special Olympics Connecticut will hold its annual Hall of Fame Dinner on Wednesday, March 23 to recognize its extraordinary athletes, volunteers and sponsors for their dedication, leadership, spirit and support.

Amy Desmarais is a volunteer with Special Olympics Connecticut who is receiving the Unsung Hero award. The Unsung Hero award is presented for volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes for Special Olympics Connecticut with no expectation of recognition or reward.

Amy has been involved with Special Olympics for more than twenty years. She always has the athlete’s best interests in mind and is a huge advocate for the local program Ability Beyond. Amy always has her hands full between being a partner for Unified Sports, assisting local coordinators and playing a major role as part of the Summer Games committee. Amy is willing to go to any training, seminars and never misses any games; you often see her with a huge smile and complete excitement for the athletes.

The dinner will take place at the Aqua Turf Country Club, 556 Mulberry Street, Plantsville. Registration will begin at 5 p.m., and the program at 6 p.m. The event is made possible through the generosity of the Bozzuto and Calvanese families.
