CT Sons of the American Revolution Honors Bethel Member

The following is based off of a press release from the Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

The Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) presented the Officer's Attendance Award to past president and Bethel resident David Perkins (SAR [L]) during the Nathan Hale Memorial Meeting in Vernon on Sept. 21.


The National Society, Sons of the American Revolution presents the award annually to those state societies whose president and trustee attended the immediate previous annual convention and both immediate previous Leadership Meetings.

Perkins was President, Connecticut SAR from 2010-2013.

The Connecticut SAR was organized on April 2, 1889 as a membership organization of men whose lineal ancestors supported the Patriot cause during the War for Independence.

The private, non-profit organization is a society of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and its purposes, as outlined in its constitution, are patriotic, educational and historical. An all-volunteer organization, the Connecticut SAR takes its responsibility as a guardian and interpreter of history seriously.
 
The Connecticut SAR is the only Sons of the American Revolution group that owns and maintains historical properties: Lebanon’s War Office, where Connecticut’s Council of Safety met and made decisions throughout the Revolution and two schoolhouses in New London and East Haddam, where Nathan Hale taught school before joining the Revolutionary cause.

The Connecticut SAR has local groups all over the state, involved in a wide variety of activities. They range in size from about 15 members to over 100.
