Handful of Election Day Registration Voters in Bethel

For the first time, residents are able to register and vote on the same day.

So far in Tuesday’s Municipal Elections, Bethel registrars have had a handful of residents trying out the new Election Day Registration.

As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, eight residents had stopped by the Registrars of Voters Office in the Municipal Center to register to vote in Bethel and submit a special EDR ballot.

The separate ballots will be opened and counted after polls close at 8 p.m., similar to absentee ballots.

Completing the registration form and filling out the ballot takes less than 5-10 minutes, according to Assistant Republican Registrar Heidi Lock.

The only part that takes some time is contact the town where the voter was previously registered to ensure that they do not vote twice.
