Byrd's Books welcomes Will Stolzenburg as he discusses his book, "Heart of a Lion: A Lone Cat's Walk Across America" on Tuesday May 24th at 7:00p.m. I remember following this journey on Facebook, it was all over the news!
In the summer of 2009, a young mountain lion left his home in the Black Hills of South Dakota and set out on a cross-country journey that covered two years and more than two thousand miles across America, passing within thirty miles of Manhattan before ending tragically on a Connecticut parkway.

Review quotes:
The journey quest at the heart of William Stolzenburg's new book features an unconventional hero to be sure, a three-year-old mountain lion who remains unnamed throughout. Yet readers will find it both compelling and insightful, a worthy addition to the narratives of young adventurers in search of riches, love, and meaning...Stolzenburg's thoughtful and gripping narrative, in the end, is less about the sad heart of a lion on a fruitless quest, and more about the hearts and minds of the humans whose territory it traversed. - Laurance A. Marschall, Natural History magazine
Part demon hunt, part natural history mystery, part unrequited love story, Heart of a Lion keeps tragic adventure company with Sebastion Junger's The Perfect Storm and Jon Krakauer's Into the Wild. - Christopher Spatz, President, Cougar Rewilding Foundation An exhilarating book for anyone who yearns after the wild. - Susan Orlean, author, Rin Tin Tin and The Orchid Thief
