ID Theft Suspect Nabbed After Attempted Credit Card Fraud: Bethel PD
A 65-year-old NY man has been arrested for identity theft and larceny in Bethel.
BETHEL, CT — On Jan. 13, 2024, at approximately 4:08 p.m., Bethel Police Department officers responded to a report of identity theft and larceny at 7 Stony Hill Road. The complainant told police that the suspect had pilfered the victim's wallet and was actively attempting to make unauthorized purchases using stolen credit cards inside a local store.
Upon receiving the complaint, law enforcement conducted a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle in which the suspect was observed leaving. Subsequent investigation led to the positive identification of the suspect as a 65-year-old Roosevelt, NY, man.
A search of the suspect's vehicle uncovered additional stolen items traced back to a Target store located in Port Chester, NY, according to police. The recovered stolen items were cataloged as evidence.

Police charged the Roosevelt man with third-degree identity theft, two counts of payment card theft, two counts of criminal attempt/illegal use of a payment card, fifth degree larceny, and sixth-degree larceny.
Following the arrest, the suspect was assigned a $20,000 bond, of which a 7 percent cash bond was posted for release. He was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Jan. 23 to answer to the charges.
