Man, 19, Identified as Victim in Fatal Crash During Bethel Police Chase: Report
Breaking: Police have identified the victim in a crash early Saturday morning after police were pursuing the car in Bethel.
DANBURY, CT — The man who was killed in a crash following a police chase in Bethel has been identified as 19-year-old Joseph Edward Rothenbucher of Danbury, reports WLAD citing police. The report further indicates that an 18-year-old man from Danbury was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Bethel officer attempted to stop the driver's Toyota Camry near the intersection of Mansfield Street and Fleetwood Avenue early Saturday and the driver refused to stop, according to police. Police say the officer began to pursue the car at a normal rate of speed, but the driver began to accelerate when it approached the Danbury line.
Police say the driver lost control on the wet roadway. A passenger in the Camry was sent to the hospital by ambulance.
