Police: Bethel Smoke Shop Failed Tobacco Compliance Inspection
Bethel police, with state law enforcement agents, visited a number of local smoke and vape shops to determine who was selling to minors.
BETHEL, CT — In a sting operation conducted alongside State agencies, the Bethel Police Department cited a local smoke shop for selling tobacco or vaping products to a minor.
On Dec. 27, the Bethel police and staff members of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services visited 17 shops that sell tobacco and electronic nicotine delivery products and conducted unannounced compliance inspections in 11 of them. In these cases, an underage youth, employed by DMHAS, entered the shops and attempted to purchase vaping products.
Only one establishment, Smokey Smoke Shop at 180 Old Hawleyville Road, was not in compliance, making the sale in violation of the state law, according to Bethel police. The clerk in the shop was issued an infraction in the amount of $300.
