Police Nab Waterbury Man In Big Bethel Drug Bust

Police say they stopped an illegal drug deal as it was going down at a Bethel residence.

BETHEL, CT — Police say they stopped an illegal drug deal as it was going down at a Bethel residence.

Danbury police detectives had a 26-year-old Waterbury man under surveillance for drug-related activity throughout the Greater Danbury area. After receiving two court-authorized search and seizure warrants for the suspect's person, his vehicle, and his cellphone, police closed the net on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

Detectives watched as the suspect pulled into a private residence on Garella Road in Bethel. Then. police say they witnessed a drug transaction between the suspect with the resident.

The suspect tried to flee in his vehicle as police closed in, according to their report, but was stopped. Upon approaching the vehicle, police say they saw a clear plastic bag containing narcotics inside and in plain view.

Police seized approximately four ounces of fentanyl, five grams of powdered cocaine, 15 grams of crack cocaine, an electronic scale and $270 in cash.

The Waterbury man was placed under arrest and charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell under an ounce, one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell over an ounce, one count of sale of a narcotic substance, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving without a license.

Det. Sgt. John Krupinsky of the Danbury Police Department's Special Investigations Division said the arrest came following a lengthy investigation, part of the PD's crackdown on fentanyl sold in the Greater Danbury area to reduce overdose deaths.
