This month, 25 local businesses are teamed with famed hide-and-seek champion Waldo -- the star of the Where's Waldo books -- to promote reading, support Bethel stores and give kids a great summer.
A paper Waldo has been hidden in each of the businesses, and when kids find him, business owners will stamp their "passport;" enough stamps win prizes and entry into contests. (Check out their website for more information on prizes and the passport.)
Byrd's Books is serving as a "local Find Waldo Headquarters." The bookstore also stocks a selection of Where's Waldo books, as employee Sue Morton points out.
"As people search around town, they can come around here and buy a Waldo book and search for Waldo," she says. The bookstore is closed on Monday, but will host a grand celebration and prize drawing July 31.
"Just hit all the local shops and see what's new in everybody's inventory for the summer," says Morton. "It's a great way to walk around town, see everybody."
