2 Amity Regional High School Students Earn National Merit Scholarship

Two Amity Regional High School students earned National Merit awards.

WOODBRIDGE, CT — More than 1,200 National Merit Scholarships were announced recently, including two Amity Regional High School students. These Merit Scholars join more than 2,600 college-sponsored award recipients who were announced last month, according to a statement.

Robert Farbman, of Woodbridge, an Amity Regional High School student, earned the National Merit Fordham University Scholarship. His probable career field is political science.

Pranav Sundararajan, of Orange, an Amity Regional High School student, earned the National Merit University of Alabama Scholarship. His probable career field is computer science.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from finals in the National Merit Scholarship Program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years.

This year, 155 colleges and universities are sponsoring more than 3,800 Merit Scholarship awards.

To become a finalist, each semifinalist had to complete a detailed scholarship application, including writing an essay, describing leadership positions and contributions to school and community activities, demonstrating an outstanding academic record, and being endorsed by a high school official.
