Seymour Man Accused Of Animal Cruelty After Emaciated Dog Seized
The dog, a Cane Corso, had protruding bones due to malnourishment, according to police.
A Seymour resident is facing an animal cruelty charge after the discovery of an “emaciated and severely malnourished” dog in his care, according to police.
Michael Franzese, 50, of Seymour, was arrested on a warrant Friday.
The Woodbridge Regional Animal Control Division serves Woodbridge, Bethany, Beacon Falls and Seymour.

Woodbridge Police Chief Ronald Smith said the division responded on Oct. 20 to a Seymour residence on the report of “possible animal neglect/abuse.”
An investigation revealed a dog was emaciated and severely malnourished, according to Smith. The dog, a Cane Corso, had a protruding spine, hips and ribs, according to police.

The dog required emergency treatment at VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Shelton.
“We are happy to report that the Cane Corso’s health is improving,” Smith said, in an announcement Monday.
The arrest follows a joint investigation with Seymour police.
