Bethany Community School Announces Post-Newtown Changes

A public forum was held Wednesday night.

Bethany Community School Principal  Rob Spino has announced numerous security changes.

Before small group of parents in the school gym, Spino outlined the new procedures.

"It takes all of us to make sure that this building is secure," Spino said.

According to a list of changes he handed out:

  • Morning recess will be from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Before 8 a.m., staff will not be there to guide the children.
  • Arriving after 8:40 a.m. will be considered late and the parent/guardian must bring the child to the office and sign him/her in.
  • All visitors must be buzzed into the building through the main entrance and must present identification. Visitors must leave their identification in the office and will be issued a badge. The license will be returned before departure.
  • Parents/guardians may have a lunch visit on Fridays only and must register in advance because space is limited to 15.
  • Classroom celebrations are intended for students in the classroom only. A teacher will solicit assistance if he/she feels it necessary.
  • Parents/guardians will be able to attend schoolwide or grade level events by invitation only.
  • Parents must report to the main office to sign their child out in case of early dismissal (considered before 3:10 p.m.). Any child picked up after 3:10 p.m. will be escorted to the designated pickup location for signout by the parent/guardian.
