Fourth Suspect Arrested in Woodbridge Bank Robbery Last Year

Mary Brooks, 45, of New Haven, is the fourth of four suspects police believe were involved in the bank 2014 robbery.

The wife of one of the four men accused of robbing the TD Bank in Woodbridge on March 9, 2014 was arrested Monday.

Woodbridge police announced Monday that they arrested Mary Brooks, 45, of Plymouth Street in New Haven. She was arrested with the assistance of the New Haven Police Department after an investigation, Woodbridge police said. Police gave no further information on the circumstances of the arrest or how Brooks was found.

Brooks is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny. She was held on $150,000 and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in state Superior Court in New Haven.

Police gave the following account (a series of accusations not proven in court) of the robbery, investigation and later arrests of the other suspects:

At about 12:45 p.m. on March 9, 2014, two men, described as black males dressed in black and wearing masks, entered the bank, located at 128 Amity Rd. One demanded money from a teller as the other kept bank employees and customers at bay.

The suspects fled with two other people in a tan-colored vehicle with New Jersey license plates and waiting outside the bank. The vehicle was last seen heading south on Amity Road. A short time later, the vehicle was found, unoccupied, in New Haven.

Police detectives later determined that Jermaine Cowan and Jermaine Brooks, both of New Haven, were the masked men who entered the bank and Brooks’ wife, Zakea Brooks, was the driver.

Zakea and Jermaine Brooks were each arrested on outstanding arrest warrants Oct. 7, when Woodbridge police went to South Carolina and took them into custody. On Dec. 9, police arrested Jermaine Cowan, 35, of Quinnipiac Avenue in New Haven. All three were arrested on robbery- and larceny-related charges.
