Man, 19, Charged In Theft Of Check From Mailbox: Woodbridge Police

Police said the stolen check was altered and fraudulently deposited for more than $28,000, which the man is accused of using in three towns.

WOODBRIDGE, CT — A 19-year-old North Haven man has been charged in connection with the theft of a check from a mailbox in Woodbridge, according to police.

Nicholas Judd was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree larceny and third-degree forgery.

The arrest stems from an investigation that was launched after a Woodbridge resident reported that after mailing a personal check in their curbside mailbox, it was “intercepted, forged, and cashed by an unknown person,” according to Woodbridge police.

Detectives confirmed that the stolen check had been altered and then fraudulently deposited for more than $28,000, according to police.

After reviewing bank documents and surveillance footage, detectives identified Judd as the person who made several transactions involving the stolen funds, including various ATM withdrawals throughout three local towns, police said.

Judd was released after posting a $10,000 bond with a court date of Feb. 16.
