Woodbridge Police Issue Warning On Fraud Attempt

Police have issued a warning after a fraud attempt on a local resident.

WOODBRIDGE, CT — Woodbridge police are warning the public following a scam attempt. A resident told police that she received a phone call from someone who said he works for a local police department.

The caller told her that she did not show up to court for a subpoena and now owes a $2,500 fine. The resident was suspicious and hung up, then called law enforcement.

Police wrote on Facebook: "Please be aware of this scam, which attempts to swindle money from people using a false pretense of being a police officer, or court employee, collecting a fine. Law Enforcement Officers and or court employees do not make phone calls to collect fines."
