Branford Mom Is 'A Warrior, Survivor, Great Mom And Grandma'

BRANFORD, CT— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Dana Tiroletto who nominated Laurie Pettella of Branford.

What makes your Mom extra special?

My mom Laurie is such an amazing person & mom, she was a single mom from the time I was 10 all the way up until I was 25. She has always been there for me and my sister no matter what it was, from picking me up from school because I had a migraine to buying my prom bib, taking me prom shopping, she even picked lice out of my sister's hair when my mom was in the middle of chemotherapy treatments. My mom developed cancer when I was in middle school, and even with her fighting to stay alive, she still made sure my sister and myself had everything we needed.

The woman and mother I am today are because of my mother. She is a warrior, a survivor, a great mom and grandma. She deserves so much more praise than I give her. I love you, mom. Happy Mother's Day.

Why do you feel your Mom deserves the spotlight?

Because she is an amazing person and mom. And every mom deserves the spotlight, doesn’t she?
