Branford Auto Theft Problem Goes From Bad - to - Worse
Branford had a huge spike in thefts from autos and auto thefts in 2017; that trend has continued in the first several weeks of 2018.

BRANFORD, CT - The number of cars being stolen in Branford took a huge jump in 2017 from the previous year. And at the most recent Board of Police Commissioners meeting, Police Chief Kevin Halloran said that trend is not slowing down in the early part of 2018.
Halloran said Branford is not alone in seeing a spike in both thefts of auto and thefts of packages inside of autos. He said the same thing is happening “not only in other towns in Connecticut but also in other states” in the country.
The chief said he believes he knows the reason - that thefts of autos has been a crime that has been taken off the more serious offense list of juvenile crimes. Hence, the chief said, more juveniles are stealing autos in Branford - and everywhere else.

Halloran said the simplest way to prevent your car from being stolen is “lock your car.”
The chief added that if your car has been broken into, and/or the keys have been stolen - then it is imperative that you take the remote control garage door opener out of your vehicle, change the code on the garage door, and, change the locks on your home if the keys that were stolen also have your home keys on the same key ring.
