Branford Tax Rate Set for Fiscal 2015-16
Branford residents could expect a change in their property tax payments next year as some may see a tax decrease and some a tax increase.

Branford’s Board of Finance set the town’s tax rate at 26.93 mills on Monday night, according to the Branford Seven. This new mill rate is an increase from the current rate at 26.36, or an overall increase of 2.6 percent.
The mandated by law revaluation process is the biggest reason for the mill rate increase, according to the Branford Seven. This budget year, Branford removed numerous services and departments, which saved about $400,000 from the annual budget, but those services are still being taxed for.
The revaluation process, which takes place every five years, has made some properties drop in value, which means even with the mill rate increase there might be a tax decrease, the Seven reported. But, some properties saw this vice versa, with a property value increase and a tax increase.
