Branford Police Department Announce Several Promotions In Rank

The department has a new captain, lieutenant and sergeant in charge due to recent promotions from within

BRANFORD, CT -The Branford Board of Police Commissioners and Chief Jonathan R. Mulhern are proud to announce the recent promotion of several Branford Officers.

Captain David Galdenzi

Captain Galdenzi was recently promoted from Lieutenant (since 2011), and served as Administrative Lieutenant since 2012. Captain Galdenzi’s previous role included working with the Chief’s Office, developing policy, collaborating with outside vendors and obtaining grants for equipment to enhance the department’s ability to serve the public.

Prior to that, he served as a Sergeant for six years in the Patrol Division. He is a 20 year veteran with BPD, in addition to previously serving with Montville Police Department for 4 years. Captain Galdenzi has attended Southern Connecticut State University and Charter Oak State College. He also completed both the First Line Supervisor and Mid Level Management Command Series at Roger Williams University, as well as the Command Officers Development Course with the Southern Police Institute (University of Louisville’s Department of Criminal Justice). He has been involved with Special Olympics since 1995 and the Walk like MADD Branford since 2011.

Lieutenant Greg Watrous

Lieutenant Watrous was promoted from Sergeant to Lieutenant and will now serve as a Patrol Shift Commander. He is a 17-year-veteran of the department and has been a Sergeant since 2007. Lieutenant Watrous holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Eastern Connecticut State University. He completed the Command Series First Line Supervisor Course at Roger Williams University. Lieutenant Watrous also had 3 years of previous law enforcement experience working for the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and the Town of Westbrook before joining BPD.

Sergeant Melissa Carney

Sergeant Carney was promoted from Officer to Sergeant and will now serve as a Patrol Supervisor. Sergeant Carney is a 7 year veteran of the department and is a third generation police officer. She has her Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven. She recently graduated from the Connecticut State Police 201st Patrol Dog Class with her partner, K-9 Arrow. Sergeant Carney also coaches the Branford High School girl’s Lacrosse Team and has done so for the past nine seasons.
