Branford Police Help Raise Thousands for Special Olympics
Police Department and local gym team up to fundraise for Special Olympics.
Branford Police Department officers teamed up with the coaches and staff at Shoreline Crossfit, to host the first ever Special Olympics Crossfit Showdown fundraiser.
Police officers, athletes from Crossfit gyms throughout the state volunteered their personal time to compete in a team style Crossfit workout in order to raise money to support Special Olympics Connecticut, Branford police said on their Facebook page.
The event without question was a huge success in every facet. Because of a collective team effort exhibited by the judges, volunteers, and staff at Shoreline Crossfit, each team was able to complete four WODS, and was still able to enjoy their Saturday afternoon.

The event yielded 40 teams, over 25 volunteers, and with the support of several local businesses in Branford, well over $8,000 was raised for the athletes of Special Olympics, Branford police said on Facebook.
Although the money is of a great importance, witnessing how many people helped set up for the event on a Friday night, only to return early Saturday morning, was a true exhibit of how selfless the community is, the Police Department said.
