Branford’s Dan Cosgrove Center Has Big News: Bella’s Adopted
She loves to play with squeaky toys and thrives off of positive reinforcement; on Sunday she got new owners

BRANFORD, CT — A dog who quickly became a favorite at Branford’s Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter has been adopted by a Connecticut family.
Bella was under the care of the shelter for close to two weeks after being turned in by its former owners.
On Oct. 27, the shelter posted this very sad post:

"Every day "owners" give up dogs to our shelter because the dog becomes too much work or they don't want to pay for training or they no longer have the time to dedicate to what the dog needs. If you are adopting an animal, it should be considered a lifetime commitment. Just know that when you give your dog up many times this is what happens once they are put into the kennel, they shake, they won't look at you, or eat, they are too scared to move from their spot. Bella is still this scared 3 days later. : ("
On Sunday, the shelter’s director, Laura Burban, sent the following much happier message:

“Bella just got adopted ! The story went viral and we had hundreds of people calling from all over the US. It was pretty touching…anyways she went home with a family in CT…so it is a great start to the week for her!‘’
When the Cosgrove Center first posted about Bella on Oct. 29th, here is what they said:
“After spending lots of time with Bella over the past few days , we wanted to show you the progress we made. Look at this happy go lucky girl!! Here are some things we have learned about Bella... she does not have food or toy aggression, she doesn't mind her paws, ears or other parts of her body touched. She loves to play with squeaky toys and thrives off of positive reinforcement. Once she trusts you she is very playful.
“As the week progresses we will test Bella with cats and dogs. Bella does not like screaming, loud noises, banging things, so we think she would do best in a quiet, calm environment. Bella is 4 years old, she weighs about 35 pounds, she is a pittie mix, spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped etc.
“We will continue to update throughout the week on Bella's progress!”
