"This senior boy is not neutered, was infested with fleas to point that when you looked at his face there were hundreds crawling on him"

But the sober reality is there are plenty of sad stories, too.

“We tend to show the happy ending stories. But we think its so important that you know the typical stories that we see too. This poor pup was found abandoned two weeks ago in the center of town.
“This senior boy is not neutered , was infested with fleas to the point that when you looked at his face there were hundreds crawling on him, he had worms literally hanging from his behind, he has mange, his claws were turned into his paw pads , his eyes were infected and he was scared to death.
“We have begun treatment for all of his issues. The vet estimates he is 10 + years old and we have named him Twinkie. Even with all of this going on Twinkie is the happiest little boy. He loves to be snuggled, loves his medicated baths, seems to be potty trained, seems to like other dogs and is just an all around sweet guy.
“Twinkie still has to get stronger so we can do a full blood panel and neuter for him. When you donate to us, these are the stories that you help us with. These are the animals that we never know are coming here, yet you help us to save them. Without all of you supporting us, we could never save sweet babies like Twinkie. If you are interested in donating you can do it right online at https://www.branford-ct.gov/departm…/animal-shelter/donation
We will post when Twinkie is ready to go up for adoption!”
As of Sunday afternoon, several people had left messages on the shelter’s social media page offering to adopt Twinkie and/or make donations. Those donations total about $500.
The money is badly needed, according to shelter director Laura Selvaggio Burban.
“He has quite a few things ahead for him including a dental, full blood panel, continuing treatment of mange and of course getting neutered once he is cleared to do so,” Burban said.
